چکیده

Background and Aim: Fasciolosis due to Fasciola gigantica is endemic tropical countries hepatica in temperate climates, highly detrimental livestock known as foodborne zoonotic diseases. The strategic control of the disease mainly use chemical anthelmintic. This study aimed evaluate anthelmintic properties Artemisia vulgaris extract on ova adult stages F. gigantica. Materials Methods: Samples were collected from Ampel Abbatoir, Boyolali District, Central Java, Indonesia. 20-gallbladders cattle which naturally infected with 270 living worms used this study. ovicidal assay was performed by incubating A. different concentrations, that is, 5%, 2.5%, 1.25% for 5, 9, 11, 14, 16 days. efficacies evaluated quantification degeneration during developmental time points egg-hatch assay. flukicidal effects observed mortality 10, 20, 40, 80, 160, 320, 640 min incubations followed scanning electron microscopy surface morphology histology fluke’s transversal sections. Results: concentration 5% showed strongest activities. percentage hatching day at concentrations 3.33%, 6.67%, 16.67%. These hatch a significant reduction (p < 0.001) compared untreated control. effect 20%, rate reaching 66.67% 40 incubation time. worms, including spine, tegument, acetabulum, intestine, vitelline follicles, disintegrated. Conclusion: results has potential active compounds remained necessary be elucidated further its modes action would interesting predicted molecular docking modeling. Keywords: anthelmintic, vulgaris, gigantica, flukicidal, ovicidal.

Anthelmintic Potential of Thymoquinone and Curcumin on Fasciola gigantica

Fasciolosis an economically important global disease of ruminants in the temperate and tropical regions, caused by Fasciola hepatica and F. gigantica, respectively, also poses a potential zoonotic threat. In India alone it causes huge losses to stakeholders. Anthelmintics including triclabendazole have been used to control this menace but the emerging resistance against the available compounds ...

ANTHELMINTIC ACTIVITY OF CHLOROPHYLLIN AGAINST DIFFERENT LARVAL STAGES OF Fasciola gigantica

Fasciolosis is a food borne zoonosis, caused by the digenetic trematode Fasciola. Freshwater lymnaeid snails are the intermediate host of the trematodes. Chlorophyllin, a semi-synthetic derivative of chlorophyll and its formulations obtained from freeze dried cow urine (FCU) had their toxicity tested against redia and cercaria larvae of F. gigantica. The larvicidal activity of chlorophyllin and...

Anthelmintic Activity of Essential Oils of Cymbopogan Nardus and Azadirachta Indica on Fasciola Gigantica

The efficacy of essential oils of Cymbopogan nardus (citronella) and Azadirachta indica (neem) on Fasciola gigantica was assessed in vitro. The essential oil of citronella showed a potential anthelmintic activity whereas neem oil did not show any significant effect. Study revealed that 1% citronella oil showed anthelmintic effect on live Fasciola gigantica. The in vitro anthelmintic effect was ...

Determination of somatic and excretory-secretory antigens of Fasciola hepatica and Fasciola gigantica using SDS-PAGE

Human fascioliasis due to unknown species and animal fascioliasis caused by both or one of Fasciola spp. are commonly seen in Iran. To compare electrophoretic patterns of somatic and excretory-secretory antigens of F. hepatica and F. gigantica  by sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), the adult flukes were collected from infected slaughtered bovine livers. E/S a...
